Syracuse, N.Y. – A Syracuse man admitted Wednesday to firing a gun into a stolen car occupied by a group of minors.
Michael A Brown, 24, was accused of firing at the stolen car seven times on Nov. 5, 2023, near the corner of Greenland Drive and Harold Street. The stolen car was owned by the man’s brother
Two 14-year-old girls and a 16-year-old girl were shot. The car was occupied by eight minors.
Brown, 24, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree assault in exchange for a sentence of four years in prison.
He was originally indicted on eight counts of second-degree attempted murder, three counts of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
The juveniles told police they found a set of keys to a Hyundai and stole it from the 1800 block of Grant Boulevard for a joyride, police said.
Brown was looking for the car on Syracuse’s North Side, police said. He was seen on video firing at the driver’s side of the car, police said in court papers.
He fled the scene but was quickly located and arrested.
Brown is being held in the Onondaga County Justice Center jail without bail while he awaits sentencing. He is set to be sentenced on Jan. 24.
